Is it really true that friendship and business don’t mix? That idea is not just counterintuitive to our way of thinking; it is like a flashing caution light. If you’ve been reading our blogs or our book, you know that Kathryn and I feel that having a friendship with someone should enhance a relationship, not hinder it, regardless whether business is a factor or not. And certainly any relationship can fail when the trust and empathy required by love breaks down.

Way back in February Sean Illing spelled it out for us in Salon.com: “Donald Trump Is a Fraud: Report Confirms the Billionaire’s Presidential Bid Is a Long and Calculated Con Job.”
Illing began his blog by saying, “Everything Trump has done during the campaign is designed to dupe the media into funding his marketing strategy.”
Illing continued: “Donald Trump’s presidential campaign feels whimsical, like a practical joke or publicity tour gone awry. But it turns out that Donald is running a long con.

As I listened to Donald Trump give his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last week in Cleveland, Ohio, the old saying the proof is in the pudding came to mind. Then it occurred to me: In this case, the adage is not quite correct. It should be the proof is in the recipe, not the pudding! For, if Congress actually allowed the Republican presidential nominee’s recipe for “curing the ills” of our country to be concocted,

The other day, I was practicing the piano and stopped to reflect on what I had played. At the same time, I looked out the window and watched a middle-aged woman, Nancy, walking an obviously older companion, a dog, Sage, who was walking ahead of Nancy at a much slower gait than what, I’m sure, she was used to walking. I was so impressed with what I observed that I ran out the door and caught up with the two companions and told Nancy how moved I was that she was so sensitive to her dog’s needs that she slowed down her normal walking speed to accommodate her friend’s older age.

Curiously, while writing Political Straight Talk: A Prescription for Healing Our Broken System of Government, Kathryn and I discovered more evidence that love is the essence of life. You might ask how could I conclude anything about love after writing three books involving politics. For when we talk about the politics of today, love is hardly what jumps out at you, considering how our politicians have behaved during and since the political debates.
All it takes is one political provocateur to utter an angry word for the whole tenor of the discussion to become uncivil.

On June 12, 2016, writing for the blog Real Clear Politics, Carl M. Cannon, the Washington Bureau Chief for that website, wrote a blog about the recently elected primary Republican candidate for president of the United States, Donald Trump, entitled Trump Is Looking for a Way Out. He cites many examples to support his opinion.
Cannon couldn’t be more right!
Frankly, I’ve believed that Trump was looking for a way out for many months now—starting about the time when he and others believed he might be able to pull it off and beat his other 16 rivals and win the Republican primary presidential nomination.

It’s Father’s Day on June 19, a date also celebrated by Americans of African descent for that day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached their ancestors enslaved in Texas. Juneteenth, as it’s called, is a kind of Independence Day or Freedom Day for anyone paying attention. The Emancipation Proclamation, as we should all remember, was issued January 1, 1863, virtually two and a half years earlier, but who’s counting? Certainly not the white slaveholders in the South,

Unlike my previous books, I wrote Political Straight Talk: A Prescription for Healing Our Broken System of Government with a coauthor, Kathryn Robyn. It is the last of a trilogy of political books, each of which stands on its own. Before I talk about why we are both excited about our current book, I’d like to tell you a little about the earlier books so you’ll get a better idea why I needed to write Political Straight Talk in the first place.

I wrote the psychologically based Political Straight Talk: A Prescription for Healing Our Broken System of Government with Kathryn L. Robyn. Kathryn’s editorial contributions to the book’s content were invaluable, not just for her writing skills, but the intellectual properties of the book were greatly enhanced by her input as well.
Normally, a book of this nature ends up being an arduous task, fact checking, resource double-checking, structuring and restructuring, and revising and revising … and revising.
